Swim Course

1. Competitors are required to bring their timing chip and swim cap to the check-in area on the swim.
2. Athletes will be required to finish their swim warm up 10 minutes prior to the start of the race. Failure to finish the warm up prior to the 10 minute warning may result in a time penalty.
3. Competitors may use any stroke to propel themselves through the water. They may also tread water or float.
4. Each swimmer must wear a swim cap provided by the race unless you have received special consideration for reasons such as a latex allergy.
5. Public nudity is prohibited.
6. Please apply your sunscreen AFTER you have been bodymarked
7. No artificial propulsion devices, (i.e. fins, socks, gloves, paddles, or floatation devices)
8. Please be sure your timing chip is properly fixed on your right ankle.
9. No individual paddlers or escorts allowed. Course will be adequately patrolled by kayaks, and patrol boats.
10. Time penalties will be imposed on athletes not behind the official start line 5 minutes prior to the race start.
11. Swimmers are required to stay on course, swim clockwise and keep course markers to the right. Failure to do so may result in disqualification.
12. A competitor may stand on the bottom or rest by holding an inanimate object such as a stationary boat.
13. A swimmer experiencing difficulty and in need of assistance shall raise an arm overhead, pump it up and down, and call or seek assistance. A swimmer who has received assistance, whether voluntary or involuntary, must retire and withdraw from the remainder of the race, unless such assistance did not aid the swimmer in making forward progress. No swimmer shall return to the race if the official rendering assistance requests that the participant withdraw from the race or receives medical assistance.
14. Swimmers must exit the water at the 18th hole of the golf course.
15. The swim course will be CLOSED 1 hour and 10 minutes after the start of the last wave. Contestants still in the water after this time will be disqualified and will not be permitted to continue in the event.
Wetsuit Rules
• Wetsuits cannot measure more than 5 mm thick.
• Wetsuits may be worn in water temperatures up to and including 24.5 degrees Celsius/76.1 degrees Fahrenheit. Athletes who choose to wear a wetsuit in water temperatures between 24.5 degrees Celsius/76.1 degrees Fahrenheit and 28.8 degrees Celsius/ 83.8 degrees Fahrenheit will not be eligible for awards, including World Championship slots. Wetsuits will be prohibited in water temperature greater than 28.8 degrees Celsius/ 83.8 degrees Fahrenheit.
• Full wetsuits are permitted (arms and legs covered).

Bike Course

Rules & Instructions
1. All bikes must have the supplied identification sticker fixed to the frame or seat post. Athletes will receive this sticker at registration.
2. All athletes are required to ride road/triathlon bikes.
3. No tandems, recumbents, fairings, or any add-on device designed exclusively to reduce resistance are allowed. Any new, unusual or prototype equipment will be subject to a determination of legality by the Head Referee.
4. Glass containers are not permitted on the bike.
5. All bikes will be checked in on the Saturday prior to race day. Once your bike is checked into the holding area, only small covers on the seat and/or computer will be allowed. Large plastic bags that cover the entire bike will not be permitted.
6. Each participant must wear a Subaru Ironman Muskoka 70.3 – issued race number at all times while on the course. Race belts may be worn and are recommended. Athletes using a race belt are requested to display a bib on their back during the bike portion such that it is clearly visible.
7. Folding or cutting race number or intentional alteration of any kind is STRICTLY PROHIBITED.
8. Cycling helmets are compulsory and must be approved by an official testing authority, such as:
• CSA (Canadian Standards Association)
• American National Standard Institute (ANSI Z-90.4)
• Snell Memorial Foundation
• The National Swedish Board of Consumer Policy
9. Alterations to hard shell helmet that affect its integrity are not allowed.
10. The helmet must be securely fastened at all times when the competitor is in possession of the bicycle, i.e., from the time they remove their bicycle from the rack at the start of the cycle, until after they are no longer in possession of their bike.
11. No individual support is allowed. Ample aid and food stations will be provided. Friends, family members, coaches or supporters of any type may NOT bike, drive or run alongside contestant, may not pass food or other items to contestant and should be warned to stay completely clear of all contestants to avoid disqualification. It is incumbent upon each contestant to reject immediately any attempt to assist, follow or escort.
12. Each participant must be individually responsible for repair and maintenance of their own bike, specifically flat tires. The event will have official IRONMAN 70.3 support vehicle on course to assist with technical bike issues. Official IRONMAN 70.3 technical support does not include the normal changing of flat tires.
13. Participants are expected to follow directions and instructions of all race officials.
14. Athletes may walk their bike, if necessary, but may not make progress on the bike course unless accompanied by their bike.
15. All participants must mount and dismount in the marked zones at the transition area. Under no circumstances should an athlete ride their bike inside the transition area. Please use caution during the beginning and end of the bike route.
16. Athletes are responsible for racking their own bikes back in their designated area
17. The Bike Course will close at 2:20 p.m.
18. Bike Course Training: Athletes will have access to bike course at any time. Athletes ride at their own risk and must obey traffic rules at all times. Riding in large groups is not encouraged.
Penalties
An official will notify athletes committing a rule violation on the spot. The official will do the following:
3.3.29 Athletes will be shown a yellow card and will be asked to stop at the side of the road.
3.3.30 A black “X” will be marked on the bib of the athlete
3.3.31 The athlete will be informed they have ben awarded a time penalty and they have to report to the penalty box in the transition area prior to proceeding on the run.
3.3.32 Successive infractions will result in an additional “Xʼ being marked on the bib number.
3.3.33 Athletes receiving a third penalty will receive a RED “Xʼ and will be disqualified- see above for 3 strikes rule.
3.3.34 Each black “X” will result in a 4 min penalty to be served in the penalty box.
3.3.35 Any athlete failing to serve a penalty will be automatically disqualified.
3.3.36 Athletes serving penalties must sign in and out of the penalty box. Failure to do so will be viewed as a penalty not served.
3.3.37 Athletes required to serve penalties may:
a. Rack their bikes
b. Make all equipment changes necessary for the run portion of the event
c. Bring food or drink into the penalty box- they may NOT have food or drink handed to them
d. Proceed directly to the run course when the penalty has been served.

Rules & Instructions
1. No form of locomotion other than running, walking or crawling is allowed.
2. Runners must wear their race number at all times on the course. Race numbers issued by Subaru Ironman 70.3 Muskoka identify the official contestants in the race. Folding or cutting race number or intentional alteration of any kind is STRICTLY PROHIBITED.
3. Race number must be placed on FRONT of runner and securely attached. Race belts may be worn.
4. Shoes and shirts are required on the run segment.
5. This is an INDIVIDUAL event. No individual support vehicles or non-contestant escort runners are allowed. Teamwork as a result of outside assistance that provides an advantage over single competitors is not allowed. Ample aid and food stations will be provided. Individual support vehicles or non-contestant escort runners will result in disqualification. A non-contestant escort runner includes contestants who have withdrawn from the race, have been disqualified or have finished the race. Friends, family members, coaches or supporters of any type may not bike, drive or run alongside contestant, may not pass food or other items to contestant and should be warned to stay completely clear of all contestants to avoid disqualification. It is incumbent upon each contestant to reject immediately any attempt to assist, follow or escort.
6. Follow the directions and instructions of all race officials and public authorities.
7. If a penalty is assessed on the run, an official will stop the contestant and mark their race bibs with a red slash.
8. The run course will close at 5:20 p.m., 8 hours and 44 minutes after the final wave start. Support services
are not available after course closure.
9. Run Course Training: Training on parts of the run course are permitted at any time prior to the race. Please beware of vehicles and high speed traffic and obey all traffic laws during run practice.
Finish Line Policy

Friends and/or family members are not permitted to cross the finish line or enter the finish chute with participating athletes. This policy will allow each competitor adequate time to celebrate their accomplishment without interfering with other finishers and ensure the safety of all participants, volunteers and fans. Athletes who choose not to respect the policy will receive an automatic disqualification (DQ).

Rules & Instructions
1. It is the athlete’s responsibility to know all aspects of the swim, bike and run courses.
2. Participants are expected to follow directions and instructions of all race officials and public authorities.
3. Athletes are reminded that littering is not permitted and will result in a penalty.
4. Course officials shall have authority to disqualify any contestant.
5. Medical personnel shall have ULTIMATE and FINAL authority to remove a contestant from the race if the contestant is judged to be physically incapable of continuing the race without risk of serious injury or death. Medical transport of any contestant will result in disqualification.
6. Fraud, theft, abusive treatment of volunteers or others and acts of poor sportsmanship are grounds for immediate disqualification and will result in contestant being suspended from competing in any Subaru Ironman 70.3 Muskoka event in the future.
7. If an athlete decides to withdraw from the race at any time, it is the responsibility of the contestant to report to the communications headquarters located at the finish line and turn in their timing chip immediately. It is essential that race officials know where contestants are on the course at all times. Failure to comply after withdrawing from the race may result in contestant being prevented from competing in any Subaru Ironman 70.3 Muskoka event in the future.
8. Communication and audio devices of any type are strictly prohibited during the swim and cycle portion and run sections of the race. Use of such devices may result in disqualification.
9.Subaru Ironman 70.3 Muskoka reserves the right to make rule changes at any time provided all athletes are notified in writing and/or at the mandatory pre-race meeting.
10. As a TriCan -sanctioned race, Professional triathletes may not win age group awards, and age group athletes are not eligible for prize money.
